The Woman in the Red Dress
Walking down the street was the woman in the red dress.
Everyone seemed to stop for the woman in the red dress.
Tear stains were ignored on the woman in the red dress.
Men began to talk to the woman in the red dress.
“How are you?” “What’s up?” ”Beautiful red dress.”
They didn’t see the feelings of the woman in the red dress.
What a day had befallen the woman in the red dress.

Sunburn
I realized that
You would break
My fragile heart
If I had
Something to confess.
So I hid
Those beautiful
Dreams of you.
Why you are
So perfect?
Why this hole
Between us
It is so deep?
I’m living
A blind lie
Away from you
And that
Makes me cry.
The tears
Drown my eyes
I can’t see
My own life.
The truth
Burns deep inside
Like the sun in
Its worst nightmare.
Nothing else matters
Except your smile
It will be
The hope of
Other poets.

I a inordinately fond of poems that say something that everyone knows, the everyone ought to know, but that so many ignore. Right out straight - "I did not love him/I loved that/he knew how/to love me/" If you can say in four lines something most people know, but won't admit, it is far from being a cliche and well on it's way to being a masterpiece.
